New York City. She holds a Bachelors degree from Indiana University,
along with the school’s Performer’s Certificate, and a
Masters degree from the Juilliard School, where she worked as
teaching assistant to violin professor Ronald Copes. Immediately after graduating from Juilliard in 1999, Amy joined the
Houston Symphony, where she played for one year as the symphony’s
youngest member. She performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony
from 2000 to 2002, and joined the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in the
fall of 2002. Amy has been honored at the White House as
a Presidential Scholar in the Arts, and competitions in which she has
won first prize include the Kingsville, MTNA-Yamaha, and the Indiana
University Concerto competition. A frequent performer of
chamber music, Amy has performed with the MET Chamber Ensemble at
Carnegie Hall and has been heard numerous times on NPR’s
Performance Today. She has also performed at Texas Music
Festival, Cactus Pear Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival,
where she was a fellowship student. Amy is a member of New York’s
Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, in residence at Lincoln Center
during the summer, and has taught in New York University’s
string department.
Amy is a graduate of Bethany Christian High
School, and her parents, Robert and Debra Kauffman, live in Goshen.
She is a former student of both Lon and Kathryn Sherer, Goshen
College emeritus professors. She also studied violin with
Renata Knific, a member of the Western Michigan University faculty
and colleague of Bruce Uchimura. As a student, Amy had
the opportunity to perform with several area orchestras, including
the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Kalamazoo Symphony, Elkhart Symphony,
and Grace Community Orchestra. She currently lives in New York
City with her husband, violinist and composer Cornelius Dufallo, and
their one-year-old daughter, Leah. She especially enjoys
spending time with her family, reading, and volunteering with
